E allora eccoci qua. A 4 anni dalle prime bombe su Baghdad, a 3 anni dalla fine della Guerra Lampo (come affermato da Bush a marzo del 2003), a 3 mesi dall’impiccagione di Saddam Hussein, a pochi minuti dall’ultimo attentato in Iraq, dopo oltre 60.000 morti ammazzati in 4 anni.

Ci sarebbero tante cose da dire, tente spiegazioni da chiedere, ma quante volte le abbiamo urlate, a gran voce, nel vuoto, senza sentire tornare indietro neppure l’eco? Quante volte ci siamo chiesti perchè di questo massacro? Eppure, dopo 4 anni di “Guerra Lampo”, non c’è ancora una risposta.

Ma la guerra non è solo una nostra percezione, e ci sono persone che la vivono quotidianamente, sulla propria pelle, “dimenticati” dal mondo intero, troppo intento a guardare la guerra nel suo insieme per accorgersi dei singoli. E allora scelgo di non scrivere oltre, ma di citare pari pari le parole di una ragazza di Baghdad sul suo (ormai famoso) blog. Avevo pensato di tradurre questa citazione, per tutti coloro che non conoscono l’inglese. Poi, ho pensato che sarebbe stato un delitto nei confronti delle idee di questa ragazza, un ulteriore filtro, anche se il piu trasparente possibile. Ho preferito quotarla cosi com’è.

And yet, as the situation continues to deteriorate both for Iraqis inside and outside of Iraq, and for Americans inside Iraq, Americans in America are still debating on the state of the war and occupation- are they winning or losing? Is it better or worse.
Let me clear it up for any moron with lingering doubts: It’s worse. It’s over. You lost. You lost the day your tanks rolled into Baghdad to the cheers of your imported, American-trained monkeys. You lost every single family whose home your soldiers violated. You lost every sane, red-blooded Iraqi when the Abu Ghraib pictures came out and verified your atrocities behind prison walls as well as the ones we see in our streets. You lost when you brought murderers, looters, gangsters and militia heads to power and hailed them as Iraq’s first democratic government. You lost when a gruesome execution was dubbed your biggest accomplishment. You lost the respect and reputation you once had. You lost more than 3000 troops. That is what you lost America. I hope the oil, at least, made it worthwhile.
